A floating mat made of collects wastes such as detergent, fats, cigarette butts, and any other material that floats.

A partially-clarified liquid that contains suspended solids and bacteria. It is important that the tank have a deep effluent layer.
Solids Layer
A sludge made of soil, grit, bones, and undigested food particles. All of which are denser than water, and they settle to the bottom of the tank.
